It's not me instead it's "We"...

Today, I am going to share with you an incident which I read from the book "The very best of A.P.J. ABDUL KALAM - The Righteous Life"

Dr. APJ narrated an incident which he witnessed during a sports meet for children conducted  by the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped, Hyderabad.

In one race, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for a 100-metre race. At the starting signal, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. But one little boy stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times, and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed down and looked back. And then they all turned around and went back, every one of them. One girl with Down's syndrome bent down and kissed him and said, 'This will make it better'. Then all nine linked their arms together and walked together till they reached the finish line. Everyone in the stadium stood and clapped and the cheering went on for several minutes.

Further Dr. APJ wrote, People who were there that day are still telling the story. Why? Because deep down we know this one thing: what matters in this life more than winning for ourselves is helping other win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course. I would say that you do not have to slow down. Rather, by helping others through the difficult areas, the feedback will make you go faster. If you pass this on, we may be able to change our hearts as well as someone else's. A candle losses nothing by lighting another candle.

True it's not sometimes, many a times we should say, We instead of saying "I". Let's win together.

I will get back to you shortly with some other short stuff and also a great one. Until then, stay tuned and have a good day..!!

Seeds of Goodness

In England in *1920* there was a graduation ceremony for a batch of *new doctors*.

It was attended by the British Prime Minister of that time. During the ceremony, the dean who was in charge of that batch, gave the necessary advice to these new graduates. He told them the following incident which happened with him sometimes back:

"It was after midnight, and I heard a knock on my door.

It was an old lady, and she said to me: 'O my doctor, my child is sick and in a very serious condition, so please do something to save him.

I rushed out to follow her to her house without worrying what will happen.

Because it was a stormy night, and very cold. The rain was pouring down very heavily. I did not fear for my life.

Her house was on the outskirts of London, and after a difficult journey, we reached her house.

She lived in a small room with her son.

When I entered the room, I saw her son at the corner of this room groaning and deeply in pain.

After I did my duty towards the sick child, the mother gave me a small bag with money.

I refused to take this bag and I told her gently that I can't accept that payment, because I felt sorry for their situation.

Then I promised her that I will take care of her child until he gets better."

The dean continued in his speech by saying: " *This is the true profession of medicine, and being a doctor is the closest profession to mercy and one of the closest to God*"

As soon as the head doctor finished his speech, the *Prime Minister* jumped out of his seat and headed to the podium.

" *Permit me Sir, to kiss your hand*.

*For twenty years now and I am looking for you. I am the child you mentioned in your story just now*.

*Oh, my mother will be happy now and she will rest in peace. Her only wish was for me to find you and to reward you, for that goodness you did for us at the time we were living in poverty*"

That poor child who became the Prime Minister of England was:

*"Lloyd George"*

*Plant goodness wherever you go, even if it is not on your place*. Because it will never get lost wherever you will plant it.

It is even more nice if your goodness lasts longer.

Because no one shall harvest that goodness except the one who has planted it.

*Doing goodness to others will always purify your heart, and it will fight any kind of evil which comes your way*.

The owner of goodness does not fall, if he falls he will fall on a pillow to comfort and support him.

May you be blessed to be among the people who always do good to others.

Right shouldn't know what the Left does

As the saying goes, "Right shouldn't know what the Left does". This means the "Right Hand should not know what the Left Hand does" when it comes to giving, charity, helping, caring and so on or by whatever name we may choose to call.

In these tough times across the world, the other species that also get affected are animals and more specifically stray dogs / cats. In a normal scenario, they manage to get something to eat but during these tough times, they do not get food and they become very weak and not able to walk. They do not say anything but, we can make out from their eyes if we watch them closely.

Though there are several good-hearted people around us who cares and takes care of them daily, it is important to mention that we need take pledge to feed them atleast once in a day with whatever we can. Even a little quantity of milk will do.

The special thing about these creatures are that they do not save anything for the future or not even for tomorrow and they do not take anything more than they could consume. They take what is really required / what is really needed for the moment even if they starve for several days.

They are innocent and self-content with what they get for the day. Let us pray for their safety and well-being at all times.

Mathematics for the wandering mind...

I took this title from the poem that I read in my school days. I remember scoring 95% marks in Mathematics in my 10th standard (Board Examination). Well, for this performance I would  like to give credit to my school teachers and more importantly to my Mother, who is good at Mathematics.

During my school days when I reached home from school, my mother used to teach me Maths. I remember once that, when I fell asleep, my mother worked out the solutions for my maths probled and wrote those solutions on the floor for my reference. The next day early morning, i copied all the solutions and submitted it to my class teacher who appreciated my enthusiasm for solving the problems. Since then,  I loved mathetmatics as a subject. The real credt goes to my mom.

It's true that Mathematics is the best solution for a wandering mind as it brings more focus and clarity in our thought processes as "numbers don't lie..! "

Mathematics learning techniques has changed over the last few years and there are several books that explains these techniques in a simplified way. The books written by Shakuntala Devi, Aditi Singhal and Sudhir Singhal demostrates how mathematics can be learnt in a more easy and enjoyable manner. While speaking of mathematics, one should not forget the genius “Srinivasa Ramanujam”  whose contribution to complex analysis has changed the way we solve math problems today.

The book written by Aditi Singhal and Sudhir Singhal  - "How to be a Math Magician"  kindled my interest towards mathematics once again and inspired me to write this blog.

I am still reading this book and i am impressed by how this book provides simple solutions for complex problems. In my humble opinion, i recommend this book for the school going kids and this book would help nurture their interest towards learning Mathematics from a very young age.

Oh, by the way “World Maths Day” is celebrated every year on the 15th of October.

Please share your thoughts about this blog and share your math experience.

Until next blog....
